Video Testimonial Software: A Buyer's Guide to 7 Tools
On this page
Quick answer: Video testimonial software sends customers a link, records their video in the browser, and shows it on your website. Compare tools on 7 points: collection, AI clips, captions, embeds, proof of purchase, consent and price. As of October 2026, Senja has the largest free allowance. Proven Praise links each video to a Stripe payment.
This guide compares 7 video testimonial platforms: Testimonial.to, Senja, VideoAsk, Vocal Video, Boast, Shoutout and Proven Praise. We checked each price and feature on the vendor's own website on 23 October 2026. If a vendor did not show a fact, the table says "see vendor site". We did not guess.
Disclosure: Proven Praise publishes this guide. We say where other tools are stronger, and we tell you when a tool other than ours is the better fit.
What does video testimonial software do?
Video testimonial software does 3 jobs. It asks customers for a video, it records the video in the browser, and it shows the video on your website. Most tools send a link. The customer opens the link on a phone or a laptop and records in the browser.
After that, the tools differ. Some tools only store the raw video. Other tools transcribe it, add captions, cut short clips, or build a multi-scene video with music. Some tools also send automatic requests and reminders.
A good tool solves the 2 hard parts of video testimonials. It gets customers to record, and it turns a long answer into a short video that people watch. For tips on the first part, read our guide on how to collect testimonials.
The evaluation checklist
Use these 7 questions when you compare any video testimonial app. Write your answer for each tool in a spreadsheet before you start a trial.
- Collection method. Does the customer need an app or an account? Can the tool send requests automatically, for example after a purchase? Does it send reminders?
- Editing and AI clips. Can you trim the video? Does AI cut short clips for social posts and ads? Does the AI change the customer's words?
- Captions. Does the tool make captions automatically? Can you correct them? Can the viewer turn them on and off?
- Embeds. Which widgets do you get (wall, carousel, single card, badge)? Is there a hosted page? Does the free plan add the vendor's branding?
- Verification of real customers. Can a visitor check that the speaker really bought from you?
- Consent and removal. Does the customer choose where you can use the video (website, social media, ads)? Can the customer remove it later?
- Price. What does the plan cost per month and per year? What is the limit on video testimonials, and how does that limit count (in total, per month, per year)?
Captions are not optional. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 require captions for prerecorded audio in synchronized media at Level A, under Success Criterion 1.2.2.
Key takeaway: Score every tool on the same 7 points. A low price with a limit of 2 videos can cost you more than a higher price with no limit.

Tool-by-tool notes
Each note below lists what the tool does well, then what to check before you buy.
Testimonial.to
Testimonial.to is a good fit if you want a free Wall of Love and you collect mostly text. According to its pricing page, the Free plan includes 2 video and 10 text testimonials in total. The Starter plan ($25/month) gives unlimited text testimonials, but video stays at 2 in total.
For unlimited video, you need Ultimate at $50/month per space ($600 billed annually). The AI testimonial video editor is on Ultimate + at $95/month. The Testimonial.to help center says it auto-transcribes each video in the speaker's language, and viewers can use a CC button on embeds.
Where it is stronger: captions that viewers can turn on and off on every embed, and unlimited text testimonials from $25/month.
Senja
Senja has the largest free video allowance of the plans we could verify. Its pricing page says the Free plan collects 15 video and text testimonials and includes unlimited widgets and Walls of Love. Starter costs $29/month for unlimited testimonials and lets you replace Senja's branding. Pro costs $59/month and adds AI translation into 20 languages.
The Senja support center says the reels creator uses AI to make short reels on every plan. Free accounts get 3 reel credits at sign-up. Paid plans get 5 credits each month, and extra credits cost $10 for 10.
Where it is stronger: a free plan with 15 testimonials, unlimited widgets, and styled captions in reels.
VideoAsk
VideoAsk is an interactive video form tool, not only a testimonial tool. You record a question as a video, and the customer answers by video or audio. The VideoAsk help center says every video or audio answer gets an automatic transcript, and you can edit captions.
VideoAsk offers an embed widget and a free start. Its prices did not load for us, so see the vendor site.
Where it is stronger: interactive video forms, funnels and asynchronous interviews, as listed on its pricing page.
Vocal Video
Vocal Video is the strongest choice here for finished, branded video. Its home page says its AI turns raw footage into multi-scene videos with soundtracks, subtitles and your branding. The link works on any device with no download.
It is also the most expensive tool in this list. According to its pricing page, Essential costs $99/month billed yearly ($1,188/year). The Free plan allows 5 published videos at 720p, with a watermark and no download. Pro ($149/month billed yearly) adds custom releases and waivers.
Where it is stronger: production quality, and release forms for teams that need signed consent.
Boast
Boast suits businesses that want email and SMS request sequences and high video quality. Its pricing page lists Basic at $50/month billed yearly or $59/month billed monthly. Basic allows 600 new responses per year on yearly billing, or 50 per month on monthly billing.
Video quality goes from 720p on Basic to 4K on Premium ($208/month billed yearly). Boast lists submitter consent, custom consent, trimming and display widgets. Its pricing page did not show which plans include each of these features.
Where it is stronger: request sequences by email and SMS, and videos up to 15 minutes on Premium. It also has staff and location limits for multi-site businesses.
Shoutout
Shoutout describes itself as testimonial software on its home page. Its pricing page returned a "not found" error on 23 October 2026, and its home page did not show features to our fetch tool. Third-party sites list prices, but we did not use them. See the vendor site before you compare it.
Proven Praise
Proven Praise is built for small businesses that take payment through Stripe. A read-only Stripe App sees each payment. After a wait that you set (default 7 days), the customer gets one email with a link, and one reminder 4 days later. The customer records up to 3 minutes in the browser, with no app and no account.
AI (Claude) picks 1-3 captioned clips of 15-45 seconds and one quote. The quote and captions are word for word from the transcript. Each testimonial gets a "Verified customer" badge that links to a public verification page. The page shows the payment date, an amount range and "through Stripe". It never shows the email, card or exact amount.
Where it is weaker: it only works with Stripe. It cuts short clips, but it does not make multi-scene branded videos like Vocal Video. Its Free plan has 3 videos in total, fewer than Senja's 15. If you do not take payment through Stripe, choose another tool from this list.
How do you check that a testimonial is from a real customer?
You check it with a record that links the testimonial to a real purchase. Without that link, a visitor must trust your word. Video helps, because a real face is harder to fake than a text quote, but video alone does not prove a purchase.
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says that "an endorsement must reflect the honest opinion of the endorser", in its Endorsement Guides FAQ. The same page says you cannot make an incentive, such as a discount, depend on a positive review. If you give a thank-you gift, disclose it. Our guide to incentivized reviews explains the rules in more detail.
On the vendor pricing pages that we checked, only Proven Praise lists a check against a payment. Proven Praise signs each record with an Ed25519 key. Anyone can check the signature with the public keys at /.well-known/provenpraise-keys.json. Read more about verified reviews.
Key takeaway: Ask each vendor one question: "How can a stranger check that this person paid me?"
Consent and removal: what to ask
A customer who records a video gives you their face, voice and name. Good software records what the customer agreed to and lets them change their mind.
Ask each vendor these 3 questions:
- Does the customer choose each use (website, social media, paid ads)?
- Can the customer remove the testimonial without contacting you?
- What happens to the video file after removal?
Boast lists submitter consent and custom consent. Vocal Video Pro lists custom releases and waivers. In Proven Praise, the customer chooses website, social media or ads, and website permission is necessary to publish. The customer can remove the testimonial from the verification page. Proven Praise then deletes the video files and takes the testimonial off all walls.
Which video testimonial tool should you choose?
Choose by your main need, not by the longest feature list.
- You need a free start and many widgets: Senja.
- You collect mostly text and want viewer-controlled captions: Testimonial.to.
- You want polished, branded videos and have a budget: Vocal Video.
- You want interactive video forms and funnels: VideoAsk.
- You run several locations and want SMS requests: Boast.
- You take payment through Stripe and want proof that each speaker paid: Proven Praise.
After you choose, put the videos where buyers decide. Our guide to the testimonial widget shows where to place them and how to embed them without slowing your page.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best video testimonial software?
The best video testimonial software depends on your main need. As of October 2026, Senja has the largest free video allowance that we could verify (15 video and text testimonials). Vocal Video does the most automatic editing (multi-scene videos with music and subtitles). Proven Praise is the only tool in this guide that links each video to a Stripe payment. Use the 7-point checklist to decide.
Is there free video testimonial software?
Yes. As of October 2026, Senja allows 15 video and text testimonials, and Vocal Video allows 5 published videos with a watermark. Proven Praise allows 3 videos and Testimonial.to allows 2, in total. VideoAsk also offers a free start. Free plans usually add the vendor's branding and limit video quality or count.
Do customers need to download an app to record?
No, not with most tools. Vocal Video says its link works on any device with no download. The VideoAsk help center says respondents can upload video in a web browser. Proven Praise customers record in the browser with no app and no account. Always test the link on an iPhone and an Android phone before you send it.
Do video testimonials need captions?
Yes. WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.2.2 requires captions for prerecorded audio in synchronized media at Level A. Testimonial.to, VideoAsk, Vocal Video, Senja (in reels) and Proven Praise make captions automatically. Check that you can correct errors.
Can AI edit a customer's testimonial?
AI can cut clips and write captions, but it should not change what the customer said. The FTC says an endorsement must reflect the honest opinion of the endorser. In Proven Praise, quotes and captions are word for word from the transcript. Ask other vendors whether their AI rewrites or only cuts.
How much does video testimonial software cost?
As of October 2026, entry paid plans range from $25/month (Testimonial.to Starter, 2 videos in total) to $99/month billed yearly (Vocal Video Essential). Senja Starter and Proven Praise Starter both cost $29/month, and Boast Basic costs $59/month on monthly billing. Compare the video limit, not only the price.
What is the difference between a video testimonial platform and a review site?
A video testimonial platform collects videos that you show on your own website. A review site hosts reviews on its own pages. On your own website, you choose which videos to show, so a visitor cannot see the full picture. A verification page that links each video to a purchase gives the visitor something to check.
Conclusion
- Score each tool on the same 7 points: collection, editing, captions, embeds, verification, consent and price.
- Compare the video limit and how it counts, not only the monthly price.
- Make sure captions are automatic and editable.
- Ask each vendor how a stranger can check that the speaker is a real customer.
- Test the recording link on a phone before you send it to customers.
